It’s a Hit

April 15, 2010

When you’re into fashion and style, you get accustomed to living in a bubble.  Some people (well most people)  aren’t overly concerned with trends or designers, and don’t know the difference between Balmain and Bebe.  While this statement would leave the super fashiony set’s mouth agape. It doesn’t bother me.  Fashion isn’t for everyone. Just like some people like baseball, and I don’t — though I am anxiously awaiting NBA playoff season.

Consequently, I’ve gotten used to the fact that the most of the people I see everyday don’t care about what I’m wearing. But every now and then, like the day I wore this dress, they surprise me.

I adore Rick Owens. He makes the most amazing, amazing pieces, that are incredibly versatile, and never boring. If money were no object I would have a massive collection of his stuff, which would be the perfect counter balance to the Technicolor dreamcoat that is the rest of my closet. Alas money matters. His stuff is expensive (worth every penny), hard to find, and usually doesn’t go on sale. If it does go on sale his rabid fans buy it up at warp speed.

I was thrilled when I found this dress on super clearance at Century 21.  The thing is, even though I was overjoyed with my bargain hunting prowess, I didn’t expect any sort of reaction from my co-workers. Needless to say I was shocked at the number of compliments I got on this dress.  I even got complimented by a girl who never, ever speaks to me.

I guess a great piece is a great piece, and you don’t have to be obsessed with fashion to realize it.
